Manuscript Editing
All manuscripts can reach their fullest potential with professional edit. Our services—English literature only—are available to unpublished as well as established authors. We specialize in all fiction genres of African-American literature.
What Exactly Do We Do?
We will thoroughly Critique your manuscript and send you a detailed analysis. This assessment will outline the story's weak points; structural damages; misuse of craft, consistent grammatical mishaps; story inconsistencies; and what type of editing your manuscript is in need of. Experience has shown the Docuversion staff that after a critique, proficient writers learn enough to rewrite their stories to the point of only needing a proofread.
If your story should only need a Proofread, we will iron out the manuscript's typos, misspellings, typesetting pitfalls, and your punctual shortcomings.
Copy Editing entails eliminating blatant inconsistencies, ambiguity, confusion, and shift-tense problems. Our copy editing will enhance your characters, your writer's voice, and your style. Basically, Docuversion will nit-pick the manuscript for the writer's benefit.
Substantive Editing combines proofreading and copy editing. It is also the art of applying appropriate word usage; recasting sentences for clarity; ironing out structural damage; correcting the smallest of details; recasting paragraphs for clarity, without changing the author’s intended meaning; and inserting the appropriate scene changes and chapter breaks.
We will not apply our own style or grammatical opinions to your manuscript. Our work can be checked against any of the leading grammar-reference and English usage manuals.
All submissions must be single-sided and double-spaced pages with 1-inch margins.
**Docuversion does our own editorial work— we do not outsource. To schedule your editing appointment, send an email to:
submissions@docuversion.com, leave your mailing address, and request an Editing Agreement Form. All requests must include a brief story description—25 word maximum.
Critiques: .75¢ per page, 225 page minimum Proofreading: $1.00 per page, 225 page minimum
Copy Editing: $1.50 per page, 225 page minimum Substantive Editing: $2.50 per page, 225 page minimum Document conversion is FREE with Proofreading, Copy Editing, and Substantive Editing.
Add $100 to the total cost of Proofreading, Copy Editing, and Substantive Editing if Docuversion will not be credited on the published book's copyright page.

Docuversion is a professional document—conversion service. We will convert your paper documents to Microsoft, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT, or PDF files. We will also key in your Editorial Markups. We work with any type of material, English only. Send us your material, along with the total payment. Upon completion of the job, Docuversion will return all material Priority mail.
Key in your revision after conversion—$1.00 per page, $20 minimum
